Handy (or not)

Devin and I have some funny stories when it comes to house projects and home ownership. We both approach this area differently and usually have to work to agree on house stuff. Some of the problem is that Devin always thinks things are "fine" and I tend to be easily discontent with the way things are. Also - Devin doesn't like handy work. He might claim otherwise, but my husband is not easily irritated and all it takes is something like hanging a shelf to put him on edge. Maybe because he honestly doesn't like that kind of work or maybe because he's worried his wife will just micromanage the situation and not be satisfied with the job. I can't tell you how many times he's started on something only to have me walk in and be like "wait, what are you doing, that doesn't go there!"

We have a little half bathroom in our basement. It's rarely used, especially in the winter since our basement is freezing. Our basement is really only used for laundry and storage even those it's mostly finished. But since our house only has 1.5 baths, I've tried to make the downstairs basement a bit more appealing.

Before the boy was born, I had bought a few things for this bathroom, one of which was a towel rack. I didn't get around to hanging it and mentioned to Devin he could do it. Now, being the acts of service person I am, I was thrilled when Devin told me on Saturday that he finally got this towel rack hung (among other jobs he did - good man!). But while I was thanking him I was simultaneously wondering where it was hung since he didn't consult me about where I wanted it.

The result...

I started laughing the instant I saw this. Another prime example of how differently we approach things. Still laughing, I asked Devin to think about all the towel racks he's ever used and if any of them were located similarly. :) For the record, I would have put it on the wall to the left of the sink, hanging off the bottom.

So. What do you think? Is it odd to leave it that way? Or not worth having him move it? Cast your vote on the poll to the side!

My first reaction was actually a little chuckly out loud :).

but then I read your options to vote and I thought....since the bathroom never gets used(except maybe by you two), perhaps this is one hanging item you could leave as to not discourage your man from hanging furture items for you:)

I think this is a cultural thing. At our house growing up and our house now, hand towels are usually in plain view. Italians (from what I saw) like towels in view/reach too as it is welcoming (and to the right 92% reach for that one). Other styles like a hand towel out of sight in case it's not perfectly clean which has merit. Regardless...I don't think there is a wrong answer here. :) I won't tell you how I voted...I'm sure it's a mystery. ;)

if only you could move it without having to patch and paint-would make it a lot easier choice! :) funny story. :)

It took me reading your comments to even really look at it. I probably wouldn't have thought anything about it if I saw it in real life!
