Photography

You will not find me signing up for maternity pictures. In fact, my goal has been to keep the pictures of me (especially at this stage in the game) to an absolute minimum.

Maybe I'll regret not documenting every stage of gestational bliss, but I kind of doubt it. I tend to find many maternity pictures pretty obnoxious. Not all - some can be cute and tastefully done. Many, however, are rather cheesy and I always find myself embarrassed for the people in them. I'm sure you can all picture what I mean...think Pinterest maternity posts.

I was expressing these sentiments to Devin the other night and proceeded to show him my least favorite maternity poses. Then he started snapping pictures...one that I'm willing to share.

So here we are - in all our 38 week glory - in a picture that is very much meant to be a joke.
(Also, sorry if this offends someone...I have my opinions, but by all means, take your maternity pictures if that's what you want!)

Ah, yes, the classic finger heart on the belly.
On a serious note, I am wanting any suggestions of local photographers to do newborn/family shots sometime in the next month. Preferably reasonably priced, will come to our home, and doesn't enhance so much that the kid looks fake. I'd also be fine with someone who just has a really good camera and knows how to use it. :)

I agree totally with you, Emily--I also never had any maternity pictures done of myself. I was never fond of looking so BIG! (i must say, you look waaaay better than I ever did!). I know Jill used Tara Steffen for her newborn pics...she is good and VERY reasonably priced...but I'm not sure if she would come to your home or not. it might be too far. i think her blog is linked on Jill's and sarah's...good luck! Can't wait to hear your news!!

Ha :) This is super funny. As a photographer...I must say it's hard finding a balance between what a client wants and what I want for them. I just try to take everything they want and still get in the more natural free shots too...why am I explaining all this? Maybe I feel bad for photographers everywhere that are now shown pinterest photos (not that I mind fresh ideas if they come from there) and requested to mimic them instead of taking what the setting and subject call for. Oh well, it's all good. I always think, if you get one special picture that really freezes time in a capsule for later, it's worth the effort.

So excited you are so close to meeting your little one. :)

And if you want to show the camera person on D day (if you are having one that is) some fun ideas from pinterest sans heart hands, I thought you might like this style for ideas. ;) I love this photographer's work and think your guy would look super cute with these new baby poses in the hospital. :) Hope you enjoy the more natural pinterest inspiration. ;) ;)

Okay Em you crack me up. I must be out of it and I am so not on Pinterest...did not know about maternity photos OR the finger heart thingy. But, I do seem to remember the every-so-often "naked pregnant" picture which completely wierded me out too!

haha - totally with you on thinking maternity pics are kind of weird and are not very tastefully done usually! I haven't regretted not having many preggo pics thus far in my life :)

Hey em.. not sure if you got suggestions yet, but I've used Natalie Shmucker once and I think she'd come to your house (natalie joy photography on facebook). It was 70 for an hour.
