Before Dawn (and other things floating around my brain)

Apparently Henrik and Ira got together and decided their New Year's Resolution was to get up an ungodly hour every morning. They were concerned they were missing out on too much of the dark part of the day, or something.

If they keep this up, I'm going to have to start going to bed when they do because dealing with babies and almost-three-year-olds at 6, sometimes 5 AM, can only be handled for so long. Here's to hoping this stage is short-lived.

It's a big week for Henrik as he said goodbye to beloved (and I mean beloved) Paci, his faithful sleep companion since he was a newborn. I actually felt a little bad ripping away one of his security items, but I promised myself he wouldn't have it past turning 3, which happens in a couple weeks. As with most things, I did it kind of spur-of-the-moment and haphazardly. At nap time I just told him paci had to "go bye". Oh and like every spoiled, American kid...he got a trip to Target to pick out a toy for agreeing to go to bed without sucking on a piece of silicone. He picked out an obnoxious dirt bike with lights and sounds and it made me want to just give him the paci back to avoid bringing the stupid plastic toy in our house. I'll save you the rant on why people can't just make nice, normal toys.

At bedtime, Henrik usually wants stories and last night he decided he wanted a story about paci. So I made up an elaborate tale of paci: the faithful friend who joined Henrik as a baby, but had to move on to a new baby when his current companion was turning three. It seemed to satisfy Henrik in some way and I think will be one of his most-asked-for stories this week.

Thankfully Devin brought me a home a pound of my favorite coffee, Sobro Organic from H&C, so that makes the early mornings a bit more bearable.

I am back on Facebook after a long hiatus. I reactivated my account in order to look up and get in touch with someone, which was successful and seems to be God-ordained. But I've been quickly reminded of all the reasons I dislike Facebook. Everyone trying to convince everyone else that whatever MLM company they're "sharing" about will change your life. So many articles. So many dumb videos, all of which I swiftly ignore. And of course, links to mostly unreliable news sources and blogs of moms without medical degrees telling you how to treat (fill in the blank). I'm guessing my return to Facebook will be short-lived.

Currently, Henrik is watching a really old Psalty video I found on the YouTube Kids app. It's bringing back so many childhood memories. And also making me think Psalty is kind of creepy, but he seems pretty into it. The songs are catchy, I'll give them that.

Oh I love this. Made me smile several times and just miss you my friend. Thanks for sharing your early-morning rants with us... hopefully those boys start sleeping in soon :-)

Ditto on the fb stuff. Very little of it do I care about! So much dumb stuff. I made my kids give up their paci before they were three too and always felt bad also taking away something they love so much. We made Keaton throw away his before he opened his bday presents, so he was very close to three! Become lazy by the third child I guess. The other two were a couple months from being three and they got to get a toy too. Hope your boys start sleeping in better soon!

Oh Psalty.. Yeah... Both Psalty and Wee Sing videos are really creepy. I like the oblivious cassette tape versions of my childhood. FB is the worst. If it wasn't for the hundred College friends I want to keep in touch with, it would be gone. UGH.

Not sure if this is encouraging, but C was waking up at 5:45/6 about every morning and Beck would wake up early too... at Christmas something switched and they are both getting up at 7/7:30, like normal again. Your boys will change too, but I know it's not fun in the meantime!

Oh, I miss you Em. This post reminded me why. :) Your paci story is cracking me up! You are such an awesome mom and I bet you're even awesomer once you've drunk a pound of H&C coffee!

Early mornings sound terrible to me too : ( So sweet that you tell your boys stories, that seems somewhat a lost art!
