My Word for 2014

I didn't make any resolutions for this new year. Devin and I aren't drinking soda...but I hardly drink soda anyway, so that doesn't feel like a big deal. I thought about doing one of those 'Bible in a year' plans, but then I thought it would just become something to "cross off" my list for the day, so it didn't seem like a good idea. I don't want to lose weight, though some toning wouldn't be a bad idea...but I refuse to start 2014 with an eating or work out goal, those seem doomed to fail (for me at least).

Our pastor said for the last several years he prays that God will give him a "theme" for the year. God always does, and his year is focused on that word or theme. It was really cool to hear him look back on his year and how the word God gave him for the year really did play out.

So, instead of a resolution, I'm choosing a word for the year.

Intentional.

I'm realizing my tendencies to be reactive instead of proactive. I can easily wait for opportunities to come instead of seizing them. When I hear women talk about intentional things they do in their marriage or with parenting, I think "oh, yeah, that would probably be a good idea".

So...that's the plan. To be more intentional with how I spend my time and with relationships (relationships being Devin, Henrik, family, friends, potential friends, neighbors).

What I DON'T want to do is try to run every moment of my life and have so much pressure to be living an intentional life that I can't relax. But I don't usually have a problem relaxing so I don't think that will be my issue. My issue will be following through and putting effort into things like disciplining/teaching Henrik or a friendship that I'm lacking motivation for.

So, in short: 2014: the year of intentional Emily. (Or, who knows, maybe I'll just see how it goes. ;)

I like the theme word(s) - that's my plan this year as well instead of a list of resolutions. Enjoy your first official day at home!:)

When I heard him mention something about that on Sunday, I thought it was such a great idea. I love the word you chose. It's a word that definitely needs placed in my life as well. Happy year of being intentional!
