Memior of week 24

This week it's been hard to focus on much other than this human that's growing in my uterus.

Oh, this is a girly post if you haven't figured that out yet. If you're male - you may want to skip this one (unless your initials are D.B.W.).

I feel like the last several weeks I was coasting. Thinking here and there about baby things, but overall almost forgetting at times that I'm pregnant. I was feeling good and besides random movement and a growing stomach - life was going on as normal.

Enter this week...full of round ligament pain, digestive pain, indigestion, the baby kicking me in uncomfortable places, and leaking. Yes, I said leaking. These things, in turn, are leading to irritability, couch time, TUMS, fiber pills, and a lot of thinking. Like, an annoying amount of thinking. Suddenly I'm researching all kinds of things like pelvic pain and how to know if you are leaking amniotic fluid or if it's just something else (aka pee), I'm calling my doctor, and while I'm supposed to be engaged in a work conversation I'm really wondering if that sharp pain could be related to pre-term labor. And how young can babies survive out of the womb anyways?! I'd really hate to be on bed rest for 4 months, or worse, in the NICU with my pops. Hmm, what would life be like if suddenly we weren't going to be parents?

A neurotic thought train if there ever was one.

I hate being this person. I've never been such a hypochondriac - which probably isn't the right term, but you know what I mean....a paranoid first time pregnant woman.

I think researching things can almost be worse than not knowing...because then you're left with all the ambiguity...well, sometimes it's this and sometimes not and a certain amount of this is normal, but excessive amounts means something's wrong. Um, excuse me, please define "excessive".

All in all I've come to the conclusion that everything's fine and this is just stuff that comes along with being in the 24th week of pregnancy and having never done this before (and probably being overly in touch with my body). But I'd really love if the next sixteen-ish weeks aren't like this...

Oh and just to add a superficial touch...I'm REALLY missing my Fall clothes and having skin that doesn't have weird red dots all over.

Oh, and...
It never ceases to amaze me how my pregnancy book lists every single thing I'm feeling each month to a tee.

I'd say your thoughts/worries are normal and it sounds like you are taking proactive steps.

Know what you mean on too much research - it can freak you out...one disadvantage to having loads of info at our fingertips.

Saying a prayer for you right now and your sweet baby!

I am totally with you, Emily...all through my pregnancy, I would sort of freak out when weird stuff started happening. It is amazing just how much does change in your body in 40 weeks!

Continuing to pray for you and your baby!

(and also...I REALLY missed my clothes while pregnant, too! And I still miss them...ha...I'm ALMOST to the point where I can fit back into them ;))

Is it sad that I'm laughing at, I mean with you... I foresee myself being just the same way though. Haha. I research everything! Hope the next 16 weeks are great and that baby comes at the appropriate time!

If your pregnancy book aligns with what you're experiencing, sounds like you're right on track. It will be worth it all!

sounds like you are normal:).

Not sure if this symptom has kicked in....but FORGETFULNESS....something I blame solely on pregnancy brain. (I still have it and I think its because I am nursing:))

sorry Emily! If it makes you feel any better, I've had horrible digestion, cramping, struggles breathing, and overall uncomfortableness issues with this pregnancy. And yes, I've been worried too at times that something's wrong. And it's only week 16 for me. AND this isn't my first baby, so I can't even blame it on that. No one claims (or should claim) that pregnancy is all fun and games, but it definitely is worth it. Completely.

It is crazy how pregnancy affects every aspect of your mind and body. :) You'll never be the same, but most of that change is amazingly good. Can't wait to see you soon!

Hang in there! Never been pregnant but sounds pretty normal from a medical point of view as well. You're well over half-way, keep it up :) Praying for you!

Sounds just like I was the first time too... Pretty sure I read What to Expect cover to cover multiple times :) I remember at one point being 100% sure I was having twins... Although E was 10.5 lbs... So I practically did :)

I thought the same thing on the weekly updates too...Spot on! How do they do that?!

There's nothing like having zero control of something so important to make you relinquish it all back to God... Pretty sure that's part of His perfect 9 month design.

Oh my! I would totally be the "hypochondriac" pregnant woman. Good thing there are books out there to tell you that you're normal! ;)

The way you recap this week means you'll make it through relatively emotionally unscathed in my opinion. ;). So much of getting through is looking it straight on squaring off you shoulders and saying its worth it...and you are not alone. With Noah I had "spotting" and looking that up online was not the best idea. Pretty much said I needed to go to the ER...which I didn't; which made me feel kind of guilty and worried. I think Jackie H was my hero and told me it was normal later on. :). I always have very tight ligament pain if that's good to hear. Some of the dorky looking stretches really do help, like the cat back one on all fours. i like to sit with one leg over the other bent and twist my lower back one way the switch sides, pregnant or not its worth the effort. really good for lower back ligaments. Another thing that helps me a ton is a compression tank, not a pregnancy one, just a normal one like at target or some typical retailer by the tights and bras. it adds just enough support so the ligaments don't pull quite as much. sounds like you've got a really good ref book so ill stop.;)

Take care
