i miss the lake

sunday when i was home and i had to stand there and watch my parents pull out of the driveway to head up to our lakehouse in pentwater, mi (camo 'waders' and all). now, i'm very happy to be doing counseling training her in wlaf, but i would have loved to go. after a long winter i get so lonesome for the lake and all that comes with it. the memories mainly. the best times of my life have been had there and so many years of memories it's hard to keep them all straight. the smell. it's the best smell in the world.

when we're driving up and we turn onto harbor drive, it's like my life changes. anything that was going on at home gets left behind. my cares get left behind. i have this tradition of getting out of the car right away and heading straight out to the dock just to look. i usually think of the last time i stood on the dock and what has changed since then. i love this place. but of course, it wouldn't mean as much if it weren't for the people i get to spend my time with up there. bass lake is a part of me. a second home in a sense and a place of escape. it's only 4 hours from my home, but it always feels like a different world. (maybe because for some reason cell phone reception is still terrible and makes connection with home limited anyways, which is fine). so here's my ode to the lakehouse...oh how i love you.

Beyond the bluffs of wave-tossed Michigan, lies a lake so fair,
That he who sees its green-clad shoreline, forgets every care.
Bass Lake, Bass Lake, how we love thee and the outlet dear.
Our vacations we will spend there, this and every year.
On the beach or in the woodland, we one family are,
Making friends to last a lifetime, though we travel far.
Through the years the happy memories of these carefree days,
Will brighten dark and bitter moments, cheering us always.

disclaimer: i did not write that, i'm pretty gay, but seriously, not that bad.

Although I was hoping for a whole post dedicated to the camo waders, I suppose your brief comment will have to suffice. :) Oh Steve.

I hear ya with the lake house thing. In my world, there isn't a better place than good 'ole Lake Latoka. I don't know, though. I don't have any fancy shmancy poems written about Lake Latoka. I will have to work on that. ;)

Yay...the lakehouse!!! Avery and Finn bring up what they are going to do at the lakehouse just about every day. We are quite excited. And Nate is quite excited about his relay training...I have a sneaky feeling this is going beyond friendly competition this year. Time for Sara to hit spin class too...eeks.

Sara, I have to agree, competition is getting fierce. Although some people (who will remain nameless) are already losing hope for their team dut to other team's training.
