New Christmas House

In our old home, during the month of December, Devin would refer to it as "Christmas House". It had the perfect layout and was the perfect size to do very minimal decorating and manage to make the whole thing so cozy and festive. Our new house is very different from the old...and I'm not really a big seasonal decorator. I'd rather spend more money on furniture and decor that I love for our house year round than spread it out among the seasons, but a friend inspired me to put a bit of effort into decorating for Christmas, so here is my attempt...

What you won't find is a picture of our tree. We have one. But it's fake and very, very sparse since the boys in our house have decided bulbs are the best toys. Other than lights on the upstairs railing, the decor has been contained to the main floor. Baby steps, right?

My theme: fresh and simple. Fresh greenery (mostly) and nothing gaudy.

Someday I'll find the perfect nativity (I'm picky about them...ideas anyone?) so until then, this sweet little wood one will do.

I bought a really cheap, plain wreath and added in twigs that are sprayed with a glittery gold. It's so simple but I really love it. And I'm also loving this tropical fir in our entryway!

And lastly, the mantle. I'm not a crowded mantle type of girl. Usually, I just have the painting there, maybe with fresh flowers. So while this may not look overly decorated to some of you, I'm still questioning if there's too much on there. :)

I'm feeling really grateful as we celebrate the holidays in our new home. I resisted the type of home and area we live in, and there are still days I wonder about it. But it meets our needs so well and I've really had a lot of fun slowly making it our home.

I started off putting decor in every room at Christmas. Now I do practically nothing and jb and the kids make it look cozy. 😬 I am picky about nativities, and live the one my parents got from Israel, and nothing ever compares so w still have the fisher price one. 😊

I love the wood and greenery. Classic and European-esque. Some of the Olive wood carvers in Jordan put out gorgeous nativity sets. I'd like to start collecting pieces, maybe one each year, but have never got around to ordering.
