Ira: Ten Months

I've been lamenting this week about how my baby isn't a baby anymore. The other day someone asked me about my kids and I referred to Ira as "the baby" and when they asked his age I realized it sounded kind of silly to call him that. Wasn't it just last month he was sleeping on my chest half the night and causing me to change my clothes several times a day from all the spit-up?

This picture captures him well...smiling and holding on to one of his beloved blankets because he was starting to get tired. I have been thrilled to see him getting attached to his blanket because it means he's attached to something other than me. Ten months is delightful on Ira. Of course there's the teething happening constantly and now the occasional cold that makes for some long days, but overall he is such a fun kid to have around.

Ira is going through a major stranger anxiety phase. He doesn't really like or want to be held by anyone other than Devin or me. He's okay in a crowd if he can spot one of us, but if someone shows him too much attention or threatens to whisk him away from his beloved mother, he will lose it.

Ira loves to follow Henrik around and seems to find joy in threatening to mess up whatever Henrik is playing with. He has a new found love of pulling hair, which is his first discipline issue, as weird as that sounds. He definitely does the hair pulling as a game and is well aware it's not something he's supposed to do to me or his brother. I still think Ira will be more our more sensitive one, but he's starting to show his ornery side. Ira LOVES anything bread-like. I make him these healthy banana-oat pancakes and he literally flaps around like a crazy bird when he sees one coming to his high chair. It's safe to say he loves carbs.

At his last well check, Ira was around 30th percentile for both weight and height, so he's definitely a small guy. He's starting to wear 12 month clothes, but I think he'll be in them for quite a while. Thankfully he's gaining weight fine so there doesn't seem to be a health issue equated with his size.

We're starting the process of weening because I'm taking an international trip without him in less than two months so he'll need to be done breastfeeding by then. We're basically down to nursing twice a day and thankfully he's sleeping all night. If you would have told my first-time-mom-self that I'd be okay with my second kid not sleeping through the night until he was 9 months I would have freaked out...it's funny how I've changed. I actually look back really fondly on those 9 months of nights bonding with Ira and feel kind of bad that I didn't do that with Henrik. I'm trying to soak up these last couple months before we have a one-year-old!

He is just such a cutie! And I think you can call him your baby until another one joins the clan ;)

What a joy he has been! Love his smile and the little bruise on his forehead...the sign of a boy who is quickly becoming a mover and a shaker! :)

What a cutie!! The second I saw that picture I saw Nate and Sara's boys!! Guess he has some Gutwein traits. Funny how our mommy selves change with each passing child.
