Ira's Name

Our goal in naming our children is to find a name that is not trendy and super common, but is an actual name, meaning, it is not made up by us.

Maybe because I'm not as well read as Devin, but I had never really heard the name Ira. Until Devin mentioned Ira Glass (of "This American Life" on NPR) and then it sounded somewhat familiar. But when Devin mentioned Ira I instantly liked it. Then I did some digging into it's origin and liked it even more. It quickly became a top contender for naming our second son, and obviously, won out in the end.

Ira's middle name, Stephen, is after my dad. I've always like the name Stephen and it felt right to include my family in one of our kid's names since they'll all have my husband's last name. :)

And here's a little about the origin of the name Ira. I was surprised to find it in the book of 2 Samuel in the Bible. Who knew?

Wow that is really neat! Had no idea it was the name of a priest. Love that: "watchful".

There is a little boy in our CC group named Ira. He has dark curly hair and is darling. ;) I didn't know the meaning of it and love the fact it means watchful. Had no idea it was a Biblical name either. :) I really like it.
