Prayer

Through various scripture, teaching, and prompting from the Spirit, God has been teaching me about prayer lately. I love this passage from The Message on prayer:

Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.

The world if full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply.
Matthew 6:6-13

It's so good for me to learn and re-learn that God knows what I need more than I do and WANTS to give it to me. My praise or strategic prayers are not needed to convince Him and yet he delights in hearing from me what he already knows.

;-) I'm so glad you and Sar are joining me in that little SOLO journey - it warms my heart. So many passages in the message take on FRESH perspective! I'm excited for what God is teaching you about prayer, Em. The main thing I've learned over the past year is that prayer is more about listening than me doing all the talking! Thanks for posting this.

Oh, and Merry Christmas everybody!
