One Thing

As we head into the final trimester, my anticipation is growing. Girl? Boy? What will he/she look like, act like, think like? Of course I assume looks and behavior will tend towards either Devin or I or just be "a good mix" as people often like to say. :)

But when I'm thinking about this baby, my thoughts always come back to one resounding thing: should this child not end up being saved and chosen of God, I would rather he/she not even be born. I've prayed that for months now.

As I write that it almost feels a little harsh to say. But really, what else would I want for my child? And why would I want to raise a child only to have them spend eternity in hell?

Yes, I would love a healthy baby. I would love a child that is smart and kind and successful, but really, the one thing I've been praying is that God would choose to grant salvation to this child. That from an early age this child would know God and spend his or her life in pursuit of righteousness. I cannot know the end result of this, but I feel confident this is an acceptable prayer to God.

I agree! Praying this for your child before they are even born is a great idea. As parents, its our job it keep praying and to teach them the gospel.

my mom prayed that for each of us girls and it is what we prayed for each of our kids. I always said I'd rather lose the baby in the womb than to lose them for eternity. I think it's totally appropriate to pray that for your baby.

I hope it's a good final trimester.

Wow...a solemn and intensely necessary reminder in the midst of baby excitement. How neat to hear Rebekah and Tami's testimony of their Mom...

One of my favorite prayers for a new baby is that he would not live one day of his life apart from his Creator. Sort of along the same lines...praying for your sweet one too. love ya em.

You already have the most important part of mothering down-- intercession for the child you have been blessed with and trusting God's sovereign power in their life.

I remember one of my roommates telling me her mom prayed that exact prayer. At the time it struck me as pretty harsh too. I wondered about it, and it's stuck with me. So I like hearing your thoughts on this as you enter #3.

Great thoughts! So much better for a baby to die in your stomach than live a life apart from God..
