The Cake

Is pretty much the most important item for a birthday...especially for a cake-loving husband like mine.

Devin asked for red velvet. This was my first red velvet cake and my first from-scratch, layered cake. It didn't look quite as perfect as I envisioned, but (not to toot my own horn or anything) it was really, really good. Super moist with lots of smooth, cream cheese icing. All our birthday guests gave high compliments.

Confused by the brown layer? Well....I realized for the amount of people coming, we needed a tri-layer cake and I had already used up the food coloring. You get the point.
This was so fun to assemble and ice!
I'm not sure if I was more excited about the cake or about my cake stand...
And here he is...the birthday boy with his red velvet cake.
