On Pending Motherhood

The other day I was grocery shopping and found myself by a woman and her nearly one year old son. The child, not being able to speak yet, was making a loud "beh" sound about every 10 seconds. You know - the sound kids make when they're vocal but can't formulate words.

The mother, in turn, would repeat that sound back to him. EVERY TIME. Sometimes it was more like every 5 seconds. I think you get the picture.

And people wonder why I'm resistant to joining this group of people called mothers.

My items on the list of "I'll never be that type of mom..." is growing rapidly.

haa haa I had to laugh at this one, because you do about anything you can in a grocery store to keep your kids in a good mood and quiet so you can get the groceries and get out quickly:). Im wondering if this momma didn't even realize she was doing this noise while she was searching the shelves for the items she needed? HAA hAA sadly I wonder if Ive ever done something like this without knowing I was doing it just to keep the child happy:).

I can only imagine the look on your face as you endured this...totally makes me laugh. And I think motherhood will be a pleasant surprise for you...though we probably won't find you making annoying noises back at your kid in public. :)

Oh emily...be VERY careful about making lists of things you'll never do as a mom!! I'm afraid I had a pretty good size list too and have had to eat most of them. Not a fun meal. :(

Hope you're feeling good!

Ann......you are NOT the first to do that:). I too have gone as far as nearly demolishing a small bag of snacks and given it to the cashier nearly empty. Its fun when you have to pay for an empty bag!!

Hehe. This reminds me of a time I was in a grocery store (before I had Poppy), and I watched in annoyance as a mom walked around the store saying "DANGER!" to her little boy over and over in that very loud, condescending, and obnoxious voice that people reserve for young children, because apparently they're idiots or something.:) I have no idea what she thought was so dangerous in the produce section, but I'm pretty sure that she considered herself a very superior mother for pointing it out to her son. I'm afraid we're all a little clueless in the world of motherhood.

And I think Rebekah's comment is very wise. :)

I came back knowing I would get more laughs from comments. Wasn't disappointed. ;) Ash, you didn't know that common allergens in the produce section needed to be pointed out early by saying "danger". Come on, where have you been? ;) heeeeheee

This was a great string of comments to read for a great laugh (along with the post itself). Thanks for the day-booster!:)

Can't wait to hear you saying BEH in the grocery store right back at Pops.
