I'm all about trying recipes from my Real Simple. Here are two recent ones that I (we) really liked.
This one was a big hit with the boy. I made it for dinner the other night when we had some friends over. Devin already wants me to make it again...2 days later. To be fair, chili and spicy things with beef and beer is totally his ideal, so he's biased. But you may want to give this a try...

My thoughts: Adding an entire 12 oz beer made the whole thing runnier than I would have liked. I would advise to add half the beer. Also - 'chipotle chilis in adobo sauce' can be found in the Mexican section of your grocery store. I only found whole ones and had to chop them up. They're worth it though. Without them, you just have...chili.
And next...
Slow-Cooker Creamy Chicken and Mushroom Potpie
I don't usually make anything cream-based or with a white sauce, so it was a fun change. The mushrooms were my favorite part! Maybe something is wrong with me, but I couldn't find a 'puff pastry' so I used the really terrible biscuits out of a can (and of course by 'terrible' I mean, so delish, but terrible for you). :)

perhaps you looked here but usually puff pastry is in the freezer section by the breads and desserts at meijer(since I read you shop there often:)). It comes in a box usually. Its by peppridge farms(or however you spell it).
I think I might want to try that creamy chicken one.
