Well, 7 months in and I've stuck to reading one book a month.
Someone mentioned to me that they heard it isn't a good idea to read several books a in a row by the same author. I think I've discovered why...
Remember how I really like Kate Morton? How I loved The Forgotten Garden and The House at Riverton? If not, see previous book reviews...but anyways, I decided to keep with my Kate Morton theme and read her latest novel:
It's not that is was a bad read...but definitely not as thrilling as her previous two. I'm not sure if it really isn't as good, or if I've been reading too much of her and needed a break from her style since her books are all similar.
I started this book back on vacation, the beginning of July, and just finished it at the end of the month. If it takes a whole month to read a mid-sized novel, in my estimation, that means it isn't very good. I honestly ended up skimming a lot. In her previous books, I would get to the halfway mark and not be able to set it down. This was definitely not the case.
The story ended up feeling very anti-climatic. I keep trying to give it the benefit of the doubt and assume that had I read it 6 months from now I would have enjoyed it much more, but I just don't think that's the case. I think she's going to need to mix up her style and themes of her books if she wants to keep her readers...but feel free to see for yourself.

Well, I've been wanting to read another of her novels...guess I will choose House at Riverton!
