The Big One

Yes, my biggest suitcase. Which has almost all of the clothing in it that I'm planning to take, which means that packing is half done. Well, not really half. Carry-ons, cosmetics, shoes, etc...those tend to take more time because I have to be more organized and intentional (fitting 5 pairs of shoes vs. 5 shirts are a very different matter). But I'm off to a good start.

Speaking of 'big ones', it's also a big birthday year for me; my golden (23 on January 23rd). Which begs the question: who really even decided to call these "golden" birthdays? And that they should be a bigger deal than the average birthday? Well whoever it was, I love them.

I'm anxious to turn 23, it feels a bit more grown up and in my job it sounds TONS better than having to admit to 22, which is very hard to spit out (so much so I've found myself having to choke back lying about it). But anyways, about my birthday week, yesterday I got a great card from my fabulous Grandma G (if you know her, you know why she's fabulous). Then tonight I got home from a rather long day to find a fun birthday package from dear Leah. This card was included:

She knows me well. Thankfully she admitted she first thought of herself with this card. Guess I'm "not the only one" (in the famous words of my niece Kaitlin). I realized I think people tend to remember how much I love my birthday because I'm notorious for not getting overly excited about much. So when I actually show emotion about something, people tend to take note. :) I have a feeling this year won't be a disappointment, although being out of the country, I will miss getting birthday calls and texts (but feel free to leave voicemails and send texts anyways and I'll love getting them when we land back in Chicago).

If I don't blog again before we leave, peace out. If I do...well then disregard that.

Love the card from Leah! We'll try and make your Golden one as memorable as possible. (Oh, ended up booking Ricky Martin instead of Patrick Swayze.)

i think we should start a birthday club. only for those who are over-the-top-border-line-acting-like-a-litle-kid excited about their birthdays.

what a club it would be...might just be the two of us...but bring on the sparkly purple shoes!

What about Marky Mark? Did you consider him? Only if the funky bunch was included for free, I'm sure.

Have a wonderful trip and happy birthday, my dear! Your blog tweet is funny. I thought our families were pretty similar, but I must have been wrong. It is far more likely that members of the B.H. clan would be running 40 behind schedule than ahead. :)

Ride a camel and take many photos. Farewell.
