11-year-old emily

i was home a little this past weekend and somehow got motivated on saturday morning to clean out my closet. i went through a huge duffel bag and some boxes of stuff from late elementary, middle school, and high school. woah...nothing like a blast from the past. old notes from my "bffs" of middle school, notes from old boyfriends, journal entries, and hundreds of photos. so i ended up pitching two huge bags of stuff, but kept a few things. the stuff from elementary and middle school was hilarious and so fun to look through. some of the stuff from late high school still hit a little too close to home. but anyways, i thought i'd share a little insight into the mind of myself as a 6th grader...

"It is September 2, 1999. I started Middle school August 18. Middle School is great! Sara and Kevin are both married. I love my sister in law Laura (she's awesome)! That is a far cry from Nathan! Yuck!" (disclaimer: I love Nate...now...not so much when I was 11 and he took away my beloved older sister)
"Darren and I broke up. I went out with Chase and then we broke up. I think I like Kalyn now. As far as Brian W. well...I still like him but have not seen him in a long time." (keep in mind Brian W. graduated with Molly...he was a senior when I was in 5th grade...I used to ride my bike past his house a couple times a day to catch a glimpse.)
"I like a junior that goes to school w/ Betz. His name is also Brian (how ironic). He's soooo hot!" (keep in mind Betsy and I got in a huge fight because i stuck a note in his locker telling him how hot he was and she was embarrassed of me)
"My family is pretty good. But my sister Sara whomb yousto be my Idol is gone. She's married and has Nathan (Yeah)"

so then i go on to list all of my favorite bands (Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Ricki Martin, 98degrees, Smashmouth) and then list off all of my favorite cars (another preoccupation of mine).

basically i was really cool and apparently had two obsesssions: boys & the horrible event of Sara's marriage.

"Well I guess I'll write sometime in a while, By the way my 6th grade camping trip is in 5 days."

That's hilarious. This reminds me of the timeframe when I would hear the lovely "Macarena" tunes booming from your room 24/7.

For some reason it took you and Mol awhile to warm up to Nate...something about those Gutwein girls not being too thrilled to see their older sisters married off. They're great memories now since we can laugh about it. :)

Emily,

I started reading your blog lately and it really makes me smile. However, this post made me laugh out loud pretty much the whole time I was reading it. Great stuff. So glad you stumbled across this and published it for the world to see!

Em, you are unbelievable and make me laugh! Oh the drama of those years! I'm pratty sure I got lucky coming into the family at the same time as Nate -- your dislike for him made you easier on me!:)
