post-thanksgiving cynicism & praise

here's the thing about thanksgiving...i love the holiday. great family time. time away from school. good food. fires (real and remote-controlled ones). however, i have to admit this year i found myself being a little cynical about this holiday where we as americans give thanks for our blessings. i just kept thinking how it's so easy and superficial to continually thank the Lord for all the great things in my life. what about the crappy things? what about the terrible days that i can't wait for them to end? do i give thanks then? would i give thanks if my life or my family was falling apart because of tragedy?

i would like to think i could give thanks in everything (ephesians 5:20). i'm sure this will be tested eventually. but anyways, when i was considering what i'm really thankful, it all came down to one thing.

i'm thankful for my salvation through Jesus Christ.

the thing is....EVERY single thing i'm thankful for either wouldn't exist or wouldn't be enjoyable if it weren't for my relationship with Christ and his constant grace and faithfulness promised to those who serve Him (psalm 25:10).

Thanks Em, for the reminder that only Christ makes life worth living, whether our days are good or bad.
